Summary

The incumbent is responsible for overseeing all tax matters for the North America (NAM) and Latin America (LATAM) tax functions. The role will is responsible for maintaining compliance with all federal and state income tax compliance and audits. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing all aspect of tax, pricing documentation, financial reporting, working with outside providers, implementation and maintenance of global pricing, implementing transfer pricing policies, and management of tax exposure.

This role will support and report directly to the Director of Global tax and will work closely with the entire APL Logistics Global Tax team. The Tax Manager is also responsible for working closely with Region Senior Management and advise on all tax related matters including contract reviews and ad hoc request.

Key Results

  • To review, improve and if necessary change the existing Transfer Pricing arrangement that currently exist in NAM and LTAM

  • To proactively lead on tax audits (CIT, VAT, TP) arising in NAM And LTAM

  • To proactively ensure that all tax compliance matter (CIT, VAT, TP) are met in terms of deadlines in NAM and LTAM

Key Accountabilities/Job Duties

  • Responsible for management of the NAM tax department. Oversee direct reports and manage daily tax department operations.

  • Responsible for managing IRS audit examinations and state/local audit examinations.

  • Responsible for overseeing service providers in preparation of the Company's federal, state and local tax reporting as well as Canada‚Äôs compliance and LTAM Transfer Pricing Documentation

  • Responsible for preparation of tax provision work papers and financial reporting for NAM and LTAM

  • Work with the Director - Global Tax on the oversight of all U.S. transfer pricing policies, continuously updating the company's transfer pricing methodology to ensure that APL Logistics is in compliance with the U.S. transfer pricing tax rules.

  • Work with the Director - Global Tax, finance personnel, and outside consultants on worldwide restructuring processes.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Preferably university graduate from accredited university.Degree preferably in Accounting, Commerce or Economics.

Experiences

  • 8-10 years working experience, with the majority of experience in a commercial and focus on transfer pricing and tax audit. Experience in an MNC would be an advantage.

Skill Sets

  • Significant experience (3 years) in developing and executing Transfer Pricing projects and tax audits.

  • Excellent federal, state and local tax expertise required.

  • * Excellent Accounting skills. Ability to prepare financial tax provision, knowledge of FAS 109, IFRS (would be helpful) and ability to prepare financial statement tax footnotes. *

  • Strong writing and reviewing communications in written and spoken English.

  • Organized, meticulous, with good project management skills.

  • Ability to work closely with senior company personnel.

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
